Virgene Culbertson, nee Longwith, of Morocco, IN, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 at Select Specialty Hospital in Hammond, IN. Virgene was a graduate of Mt. Ayr High School and she received her B.S. and M.S. from Indiana University. After graduation, Mrs. Culbertson was recruited by the Munster, IN schools where she taught Reading and English. She subsequently taught at Lafayette Elementary School in Hammond from which in 1967 she transferred to Morton High School where she served as librarian until 1986. She retired from Wallace School the following year. Retirement found Virgene gardening, researching family genealogy, antiquing, watching the stock market, learning the computer, and as always, reading. She was currently the treasurer of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, Beta Chapter. Virgene is survived by her husband, Warren “Dave” Culbertson; brother-in-law, Robert L. Culbertson of Dallas, TX; and many devoted friends. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001 at the Lang Funeral Home in Morocco, IN. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at the Lang Funeral Home. Interment Service will follow at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond.
