Betty N. Coleman, 94, of Bradenton, FL, and Sister Bay, WI, passed away on Sunday, September 23 in Sister Bay, four days short of her 95th birthday. She was born and raised in Wilmette, IL and was a graduate of New Trier High School. Betty and her husband, Phil, who preceded her in death, began coming to Door County in 1958, while residents of Wilmette. They fell in love with the area and returned to their summer home in Sister Bay until Phil’s death. Betty then became a permanent resident of the DuNord Hotel. Betty was an ardent supporter of the Peninsula Music Festival and endowed a violin performance chair. She also sponsored a dinner for the musicians and their families each August. She will be missed by her many friends within the community and the musical fraternity of Door County. Betty was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was a gracious and classy lady with an infectious sense of humor. Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Caroline and a son, Bob Nelson. She is survived by a son, Fred (Kay) Nason of Lafayette, CO; a granddaughter, Linda (Jim) Lightsey of Naperville, IL; grandson, Chuck (Cindy) Olson; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Courtney of Encinatas, CA; grandson, Kevin Nason of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Heidi (Bruce) Jones and great-granddaughter, Nicole of Drakesville, IA. A memorial service will be held in October at Kenilworth Union Church. A celebration of her life will take place in Sister Bay next summer.
