Edwin W. Bruns, 77, of Palatine, a farmer and retired truck driver, died Monday, Sept. 24, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Born and raised in Palatine, Mr. Bruns left high school to help his uncles on their farms in the northwest suburbs. When they retired, he continued farming in the area, primarily harvesting hay and grains. Most recently Mr. Bruns farmed hay in Hoffman Estates. “Farming was his life. He loved being outdoors and was proud that he was carrying on the family’s farming heritage,” said his daughter-in-law Toni Bruns. When he was not farming, he worked as a truck driver and delivered grain and asphalt. He retired from trucking in the late 1970s. During the Korean War, Mr. Bruns served as an Army medic. Mr. Bruns is also survived by four daughters, Susan Berthiaume, Linda Bailey, Kathy Schrader and Diane Weber; a son, John; a sister, Ruth Pace; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
