The Oriental Institute Museum in Chicago, the Chicago Zoological Society in Brookfield, Scitech in Aurora and the McLean County Museum of History in Bloomington are among the seven Illinois museums awarded grants by the Washington, D.C.-based Institute of Museum and Library Services. The four will each receive $112,500; in addition, grants have been given to the Children’s Museum of Illinois in Decatur ($47,071); Ellwood House Museum in DeKalb ($24,343) and the Cernan Earth and Space Center in River Grove ($38,985). The Institute of Museum and Library Services, an independent federal agency, received 800 applications from museums, which were judged by museum professionals who awarded more than $15 million in grants to 178 museums.
