The article “Two-legged rescuers come to aid of stranded animals” (Page 1, Sept. 24), regarding the intensive volunteer effort to rescue stray animals in the aftermath of the horrific terrorist attacks, was very uplifting.

The residents of New York have proven to be paragons of compassion.

Rescuing displaced dogs, cats and other pets is another example of saving lives in the midst of tragedy.
