George Buick, age 55, of Orange Park, Florida, died October 10, after a short illness with pancreatic cancer. George is a proud alumnus of the University of Illinois and Northwestern University Institute for Management. One of his proudest professional achievements was being listed in Who’s Who in America in the Computer Industry in 1989, although he was also featured in Computerworld and Chief Information Journal. After a successful career as C.I.O. and Director of Warehousing and Distribution at top retail companies, George and his wife, Jean, retired to Hilton Head, South Carolina in 1990 to enjoy “serious” tennis, boogie Board and play “giggle” bridge. They subsequently moved to their “dream” oceanfront condo and tennis club in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. In 2000, they chose to move closer to their new granddaughter and settle into a “top” tennis club, Eagle Harbor, on Fleming Island near Jacksonville, Florida. George was working toward playing on the Senior “A” team with his good friends and partners. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jean; daughter, Lynnette VanAlstine and her husband Brian, and granddaughter, Blake; son Ward and wife Sherry, and son Hunter; his mother, Virginia Buchik; 2 brothers, Paul Buchik, and his wife Brenda and Drew Buchik. George, with his sharp wit and dry sense of humor, will be dearly missed by his many friends and loved ones. George has requested to be cremated, but a celebration of his life will be held at Eagle Harbor Tennis Club, near Jacksonville, Florida. A memorial will be held on November 10, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace, 701 Plainfield Ave., Darien, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for pancreatic research in George’s name to: Dr. Douglas B. Evans, The University of Texas, M.D., Anderson Cancer Center, Dept. of Surgical Oncology, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Box 106, Houston, TX 77030
