Alan Webb won the Wolverine Interregional on Sunday, the freshman’s third victory in three races for Michigan’s cross-country team.

Webb, who broke Jim Ryun’s 36-year-old U.S. record for a mile by a high school runner in May, outran the field in the 8,000 meters by 32 seconds.

“Today was a really hard race because of the weather, and it was so slow,” Webb said after being timed in 25 minutes 12 seconds on a muddy course. “It really hurt to run today.”

This was the first time the 18-year-old runner from Reston, Va., had competed on his school’s home course.

Taking Art’s money

Fewer than half the 11,000 former Cleveland Browns season ticket-holders have claimed a $50-a-seat refund stemming from owner Art Modell’s decision to move the franchise to Baltimore.

The refund resulted from the settlement of a class-action lawsuit contending Modell defrauded the ticket-holders.

About 4,100 people have responded to settlement letters mailed in August, while 4,800 have until Oct. 31 to claim their refunds.

`While everybody recognizes we’re having down years, we all feel great about the tradition of both franchises.’
