– Dodge has its work cut out for it now that it’s getting back into the police car business for 2002 with a special Intrepid. The Ford Crown Victoria police special accounts for about 50,000 to 60,000 sales a year, the Chevrolet Impala police special about 10,000. Dodge hopes for sales of 5,000 units the first year.

FYI

– While the automakers are producing crossovers, vehicles that are part car and part truck or sport-utility, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has come up with a new tire called the Fortera HL, a cross between a car and light-truck tire for use on crossovers and sport-utes. Fortera HL is designed to deliver car-like ride on those truck- or SUV-like vehicles. It’s scheduled to be at retail stores next month.

– Goodyear also reports that the Chevy SSR roadster truck, which goes into production late next year, will ride on specially developed “super wide” Eagle RS-A performance tires–19-inch inch upfront, 20-inch in the rear.
