A 16-year-old Elgin boy was charged with first-degree murder Friday, the day after a teenager he is accused of shooting in the face died of his wounds.
Bond was set at $500,000 for Benny Deanda Jr., who appeared in Cook County’s Rolling Meadows Courthouse. He is accused of using a .32-caliber handgun to shoot Mario Jimenez, 16, of Elgin, in the right eye Sunday afternoon in a gang-related dispute.
Jimenez died Thursday night in Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
Deanda had faced a charge of attempted murder as a juvenile. That charge was dropped Friday when he was charged as an adult with murder.
