Arnold I. Miller, 49, of Palatine, a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Arlington Heights, died Friday, Nov. 9, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Born in Chicago, he was raised in Hoffman Estates and graduated from Conant High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Mr. Miller managed a number of discount outlet stores in the Chicago area before joining the postal service in Arlington Heights in 1995. A “tall, gentle and good-natured man,” Mr. Miller loved to spend time outside, hiking, biking, camping or taking photographs, said his mother, Harriett. “He was considerate, kind, and always cheerful,” she said. Also described as an artistic person, he often drew and crafted homemade greeting cards for family members and friends. Mr. Miller is also survived by a son, Brian; a daughter, Jessica; his father, Bernard; brothers Dr. Richard and Martin; and a sister, Susan Peters. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Beth Tikvah Congregation, 300 Hillcrest Blvd., Hoffman Estates.
