Barry Bonds totally deserved the Most Valuable Player award in the National League because of the three records he set–home runs, walks and slugging percentage.
If uninformed sportswriters vote for the hometown boy, the proper winner would never win the award (“Honor gives Bonds record; Becomes 1st 4-time winner; Sosa runner-up,” Sports, Nov. 20).
I think Teddy Greenstein of the Tribune and Mike Kiley of the Sun-Times should be banned from voting if they do not use better sense when the MVP vote is taken, because they were the only two to give Sosa first-place votes.
Thankfully other writers take this more seriously.
