Trustees this week approved a solid-waste contract with BFI of Elgin, the village’s current provider, effective through March 2005.
Earlier this year, village officials rejected a contract extension proposal from the company that would have hiked the price of pickup. At least initially, the single-family rate will remain at $10.61 a month, and yard waste stickers will continue to cost $1.50, officials said.
John Nevenhoven, assistant to the village administrator, said any subsequent increases would become effective April 1 of each year and would be equal to the Chicago area consumer price index, with current estimates at 2.5 percent. According to Village Administrator Robin Weaver, two significant changes have been added to the contract: The company will provide portable toilets at no charge for the 4th of July festival at Lake Park West High School, a savings of $500 a year, and all recyclable material will be collected together.
