The Lake County Forest Preserve District Board has approved a proposal to purchase 220 acres near Round Lake to create the first preserve in the area.

The new preserve can be seen from Belvidere, Nippersink and Cedar Lake Roads. It consists of two contiguous parcels: a 180-acre parcel for which the district paid $4.25 million and a 40-acre parcel that cost $804,000.

The two buys are the 13th and 14th acquisitions made with funds from a November 2000 bond referendum measure that earmarked $75 million for land acquisition.
