Gary Reinmuth wrote, “The game, though, was hardly a disaster for the Illini,” referring to Illinois’ 47-34 loss to LSU in the Orange Bowl (Tribune, Jan. 3).
Down 34-7 at halftime, LSU had 595 total yards, people like Jim Rome making national jokes. . . . Hey, Gary, what do you call a disaster?
I’ve been an Illini fan for 40 years and go to one game a year. Every fan I know considers it an embarrassing loss. Maybe Reinmuth can walk me through why he thinks it was a non-disaster. Looking back, it was the weakest the Big Ten has been in my lifetime.
