Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has been offered the job as Steve Spurrier’s successor at Florida, the Orlando Sentinel reported Saturday.
Several sources say Stoops has been offered a multiyear deal upward of $3 million a year. He makes $2 million a year now. Spurrier made $2.1 million.
The signing of Stoops would bring Florida a high-profile coach who, at only 41, is established and could continue the dynasty built by Spurrier, for whom he was defensive coordinator from 1996-98.
Stoops is fiery, disciplined and organized, and he admires Spurrier, athletic director Jeremy Foley and the state of Florida, where he owns a home.
– Bill Diedrick, Stanford’s offensive coordinator for four years, is following Tyrone Willingham to Notre Dame. Diedrick, 55, has been hired as the Irish’s offensive coordinator.
