Madaline E. Misner, 92, of Carol Stream, a retired nurse, died of a heart attack Friday, Jan. 18, in her home. Mrs. Misner was born and raised on a farm in Ashton, Mo. She graduated as a registered nurse from Evanston Hospital School of Nursing and during the 1930s attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with plans to become a missionary nurse. During that time, she was chairwoman of the Christian Nurses Association in Chicago. She got married in 1940 and worked as a private-duty nurse in Chicago-area hospitals for more than 35 years. “She loved nursing,” said her daughter Pamela Poland. “She always put other people first … She just had a quiet dignity, and I think that comforted people.” After she retired in 1974, Mrs. Misner, a former resident of Lombard and Downers Grove, cared for her mother and her husband, David, who died in 1998. Other survivors include a daughter, Marilyn; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Services will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
