Before the Tribune prints another article or letter decrying the supposedly harsh conditions for detainees at Guantanamo Bay, maybe World War II veterans should describe the conditions they endured while held as POWs in German and Japanese prison camps. Or better yet, people should read Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) autobiography, in which he describes his treatment by the North Vietnamese at the “Hanoi Hilton.”
