Alpha Nina Berning, nee Mikkelsen, age 86, entered eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2002 at Lee Memorial Health Park Hospital, Ft. Myers, FL. Formerly of Deerfield, IL, she is the beloved wife of retired Illinois State Senator, Karl I. Berning; devoted and loving mother of Grant R. Berning, Penny L. Schafer and Randall K. Berning. Also surviving are four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons; two sisters Edna Wiley and Esther Sherman; a brother Miller Mikkelsen; two daughters-in-law Beverly and Carol Berning; and a son-in-law Larry Schafer. Family and friends may call at Trinity United Church of Christ, 760 North Ave., Deerfield, IL, Feb. 5, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the church at 1 p.m. Interment Deerfield Cemetery.
