For Mark Cuban, the hardest part about refereeing a Harlem Globetrotters game was trying to keep the whistle in his mouth while he was laughing.
The Dallas Mavericks owner and much-fined critic of NBA officiating got a sugary taste of life on the other side of refereeing Friday.
“I had a blast,” said Cuban, who had so much fun he stretched his scheduled five minutes into 20.
If Cuban had a refereeing style, it would be the swallowed-whistle technique.
“I found myself watching sometimes,” Cuban said, “enjoying it like I was 10 years old all over again.”
