Edmund “Gus” Sonnenberg, longtime resident of Palatine, passed away suddenly at the age of 79, husband of many years to Barbara; cherished father of James (Kristina); beloved grandfather of Elise, Charles and Michael; dear brother of Helen Witowski and fond uncle of Patrick, Michael and Claudia. Edmund served in WWII and was the cofounder and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Maria Council of Park Ridge. He was also the former president of Great Lakes Travelers Club and a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Funeral service Tuesday 9:30 a.m. from Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the poor and needy appreciated.
