Even as the New England Patriots celebrate their Super Bowl title, Las Vegas oddsmakers are doubting they can repeat.
The St. Louis Rams, beaten 20-17 by the Patriots on Sunday, were installed Monday as the favorite to win the 2003 Super Bowl.
“No doubt about it, we have the Rams by far the clear favorite, at 3-1,” said Jay Kornegay race and sports book director at the Imperial Palace hotel-casino.
The Patriots, Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts are all 15-1 at the Imperial.
Bally’s-Paris also has the Rams favored but at slightly longer odds, 9-2, to win next year. The Patriots opened at 10-1. The Stardust hotel-casino has the Rams at 3-1 and the Patriots at 8-1.
Unusual triple-double
Kalara McFadyen had Memphis coach Joye Lee-McNelis wanting her autograph after she turned in a triple-double for the Lady Tigers without taking a shot.
The 5-foot-6-inch point guard had 10 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 steals Sunday in a 91-56 victory over Charlotte.
It was only the fifth triple-double in Conference USA history, the first not involving any points.
“What she did was pretty amazing,” Lee-McNelis said.
McFadyen’s performance earned her co-player of the week honors for Conference USA.
Say what?
`The whole season is a waste now. I don’t care what anybody else says.’
