James J. Roberts Sr., passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 in the loving care of his son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, Sherry. Mr. Roberts was born on Dec. 16, 1918 in Moline, IL. He grew up in Chicago and joined the Army. He served during World War II under General Patton and saw combat in North Africa and Italy. He was severely wounded in Italy and was in the hospital for six months. He returned home to work and raise his four sons. He is survived by Mildred, his loving wife of 62 years. He will be truly missed by his sons, Jim Jr., Gary and Steve; his daughter-in-law, Sherry; his grandchildren, Paul (Lilly), Ryan, Melissa, Gary, Stephen and Chanel; and great-grandson, Lazzero. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis. A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of All Saints Basilica at 6280 N. Sauganash, Chicago, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002. His ashes will be spread at sea on board the Captain Video which he loved so much, off of the Island of Bimini in the Bahamas, where his son, Dennis’ ashes were put to rest.
