Alfred Edward Schmidt, born June 23, 1925 in Chicago, passed away Feb. 5 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer, beloved husband for 50 years to Judith; loving father of Eric (Jenny), Edward (Kathy) and Kurt (Christy); proud grandfather of Matthew and Michael Schmidt, T.J. Pederson, Jordon, Colleen and Jamie Schmidt, Nick and Katja Halverson; dear brother of Walter (Lillian) Schmidt; former father-in-law of Kathy; fond uncle of Karen (Tom) Schleindwein and great-uncle of Mollie and Joey; also many extended family members he greatly loved. Visitation Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. at The G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Ave., Des Plaines. Lying in state Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Services at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 855 Lee Street in Des Plaines. Interment St. Luke Cemetery.
