– The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $900,000 civil penalty against American Eagle Airlines, accusing the regional airline of violating rules on shipping hazardous materials. The FAA says American Eagle offered to ship an oxygen generator on a passenger flight in 2000. Oxygen generators are banned as cargo on passenger flights. The airline has 30 days to respond to thecomplaint.

– The FAA says the number of planes, people or vehicles mistakenly entering runways declined in 2001, reversing a trend.There were 381 runway incursions last year, down from 431 in 2000. The most serious incidents, those in which a collision was avoided only because a plane or vehicle quickly moved out of the way, dropped to 50 last year from 68 in 2000.
