Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Rick Morrissey faced up to a sensitive issue and said what needed to be said … the only sportswriter in our area who had the courage to do so even though many others undoubtedly feel the same way.

Morrissey (and the Tribune) will feel the wrath of many righteous readers who will want his head; others will pray for him in hopes of making him see the light. My hope is that you’ll hear from more in favor of the column than against it, because everyone I spoke to about it had the same comment: “It’s about time someone brought it out in the open.” It’s ridiculous to see players kneel to pray when they score touchdowns, or hold hands in a prayer circle at the end of the game after spending the previous 60 minutes trying to maim an opponent.

Save it for the locker room or go to church after the game. We don’t need the public display.
