– Nissan is recalling 16,000 2000-2001 Sentras with 1.8-liter engines that could become sluggish or stop running because of a sensor problem. No accidents have been reported in connection with the problem. Owners will be notified by letter if their vehicle is subject to the recall. Nissan began sending the letters last month.
– Hyundai is recalling more than 86,500 1999-2001 Sonatas with a defective air bag warning light that could improperly illuminate. Dealers will service the front-seat side-impact air-bag wiring harness in the recall, which Hyundai spokesman Mike Anson says was not conducted for safety reasons.
– Hyundai is also recalling more than 42,700 1997-2001 Tiburons built between March 1996 and August 2000 on which driver- and front-passenger seat belts may not extend and retract smoothly. No accidents have been reported in connection with the problem.
– More than 26,600 2000-2001 Hyundai Accents in 23 cold-weather states are being recalled. At extremely cold temperatures, moisture in the throttle body can cause a higher than normal idle speed, Anson says. No accidents have been reported.
More than 1,900 2001 Hyundai XG300s are being recalled. Improperly manufactured powertrain control modules were installed in some vehicles. The recall is nearly complete and no accidents have been reported in connection with the problem.
– BMW is recalling 1,318 2002 5-Series cars with standard suspensions in September and October. A problem with the tire-mounting process could cut the outer sidewall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the vehicles involved have Continental ContiTouringContact CH95 EcoPlus tires. Dealers will inspect all five tires for a possible cut and replace the tires if needed. Owner notification began Dec. 10.
