I hope Mayor Daley is happy with his recent victory on the new police contract. As far as I’m concerned we got shafted. This contract is not a win situation for members of the Chicago Police Department. We received the exact same contract that we turned down, so please explain to me how the police officers won.

Just to set the record straight, this contract dispute was not about the pay increase. I know the mayor realizes that the department brings in a substantial amount of revenue for the city by writing traffic citations and parking tickets. This revenue goes into the general fund that the mayor can spend as he chooses. Furthermore, most officers write more than enough citations to pay their own salaries. The lack of support the mayor shows is disheartening, and a definite morale killer.

Thanks very much to the mayor, the arbitrator, and our joke of an FOP president for showing how little you care about members of the Chicago Police Department.
