Regarding the comparison between Enron and the Catholic Church, I fail to see how anyone can compare the inexorable weight of human suffering to the inconvenience of financial loss.
Bad allegories aside, one possible underlying cause of this continued pattern of deviant behavior is the outmoded standard of mandatory celibacy among the clergy. Where is the pressure on the Catholic Church to lift the celibacy requirement and allow married men and women to wear the Lord’s frock?
The root of the problem may not lie in the celibacy issue, but at the core concept of the Catholic Church itself. People should be fed up with smoke screens and cover-ups and stop feeding a multibillion dollar entity that hides behind the tax-free facade of religion. It’s high time everyone woke up and realized that, like investing, worshiping God no longer requires expert advice.
