Make a date with the Queen of the Nile. In a three-part film festival/seminar series, “Cleopatra Goes Hollywood,” the legendary Egyptian ruler comes alive as a Hollywood star, portrayed by Claudette Colbert and Elizabeth Taylor in two film classics.
The movies will be shown over three consecutive Sundays, beginning at 1:30 p.m. this Sunday, at the Oriental Institute Museum, 1155 E. 58th St., on the University of Chicago campus. The Field Museum is co-sponsoring the event.
Following each screening, Egyptologist Michael Berger explores how the films depict the queen and the land of the pharaohs.
Performances of other actresses who have portrayed Cleopatra also will be discussed.
Come to the screenings, seminars or both. Movies are $2 each; seminars are $15 each ($40/series). Seminars require preregistration. Call 773-702-9507.
