Dr. Nicholas John White, 92, a longtime St. Charles resident who practiced podiatry in the Fox Valley for 35 years, died of cancer Sunday, February 10, in Delnor Glen Assisted Living in St. Charles. Dr. White was born in Sodus, Mich. His family left their farm and moved to Chicago when he was young. He was greatly influenced by his aunt, Lena White Klink, a podiatrist who encouraged him to follow in her profession, said his daughter Judy Gerty. “She was instrumental in my father’s enrollment in Lake Forest Academy. Then he went on to the Chicago School of Podiatry,” Gerty said. His first office was in the old Stevens Building in Chicago’s Loop, his daughter said. He married Margaret Jordan, who worked in his office. In 1946, he moved his practice to St. Charles, and he and his wife moved there the next year. Dr. White retired from his practice in 1982 at age 72. “He was always telling jokes.” Gerty said. “He would even write them down so he wouldn’t forget them.” In addition to his wife and daughter, Dr. White is survived by two more daughters, Maggie Young and Barbara White Perry; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of services at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick Mission Church, 6N491 Crane Rd., St. Charles.
