A judge in Santa Ana, Calif., ordered Dennis Rodman to stand trial in a $10 million lawsuit filed by a model who charges that the former NBA star drugged and raped her in 1999.

Tina New filed a $10 million civil suit last year against Rodman, who said he has never met the woman. A court-appointed arbitrator suggested a $225,000 settlement, but Rodman refused to pay and a judge ordered a Sept. 23 civil trial.

Baseball: The Rolando Paulino Little League of the Bronx in New York City has informed Little League Baseball Inc. that it will not seek to renew its charter for the 2002 season. Rolando Paulino, the league’s founder, was banned for life from Little League after officials determined that Danny Almonte, the star pitcher on last year’s Paulino team, was 14 years old and had not played in the required regular-season games.

Boxing: Mike Tyson has been licensed to fight in Georgia, putting the Georgia Dome into the running as a site for his heavyweight title fight with Lennox Lewis.

The fight is still being shopped to several cities, though, and both the site and date of the bout are in question.

Hockey: The East Coast Hockey League suspended Toledo’s Chris Slater for 36 games for lunging at a fan during a game.

Tennis: Third-seeded Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario was eliminated in the first round of the Qatar Open in Doha, losing 6-4, 6-3 to Alicia Molikin of Australia.

Women’s basketball: Tamika Catchings had 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Blaze to a 79-71 victory over the Birmingham Power.

Women’s volleyball: The Minnesota Chill swept the Thunder 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 in Rochester, Minn.
