D. Scott Mitchell, 35, who at a young age became chief investment officer and a first vice president of Corus Bank, died Monday, Feb. 11, of cancer in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Raised in Decatur, Mr. Mitchell was a standout wrestler in high school and once was ranked fourth in the state. He entered graduate school two years later at the University of Chicago, where he earned a master’s of business administration. By 1994, Mr. Mitchell was an officer with Corus Bank. A natural leader and disciplined worker, Mr. Mitchell quickly rose to vice president and ultimately to first vice president of the Chicago-area bank. It was at Corus that he met his wife, Michelle. They married last December. Since 1997, Mr. Mitchell had volunteered at Literacy Chicago, teaching adults to read. He was an avid runner and had raced in the Boston, New York and Chicago marathons. In addition to his brother and wife, Mr. Mitchell is survived by his mother, Kathleen Kempke; his father, Stephen Mitchell; his stepmother Reva Mitchell, and his stepfather Ken Kempke.
