If corporations being caught in the act of malfeasance served to make other corporate entities keep their business dealings upfront and honest, as columnist Steve Chapman says (“Our real protection against future Enrons,” Commentary, Feb. 7), by now all corporations would make Dick Tracy look like a crime boss.

No, it’s more likely they will use experiences like Enron’s to devise more effective methods to circumvent the law, hide their true wealth and avoid paying their fair share of taxes.
