David McRae Irwin, of Rolling Meadows, IL, born June 7, 1923, in Cleveland, OH, died in his home Feb. 18, 2002, after a lengthy illness, beloved husband of Mary, nee Osgood; loving father of Patrick (Terri), Stephen (Geri), and Peter; proud grandfather of Sam; dear brother of Constance (the late Sam) Steinberg. Mr Irwin served in WWII with the USMC, 4th Division, 3-L-23 Company. He participated in the battles of Roi Namur, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. David was wounded on Saipan. In 1951 he graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in Mining Engineering. He is a Legion of Honor member of AIMME. In retirement, David started his own business, I & I Services. The family will welcome friends at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine, Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment and services for the family will be held in Twinsburg, OH. The family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, IL 60010 or charity of one’s choice. For funeral info 847-359-8020.
