David McRae Irwin, of Rolling Meadows, IL, born June 7, 1923, in Cleveland, OH, died in his home Feb. 18, 2002, after a lengthy illness, beloved husband of Mary, nee Osgood; loving father of Patrick (Terri), Stephen (Geri), and Peter; proud grandfather of Sam; dear brother of Constance (the late Sam) Steinberg. Mr Irwin served in WWII with the USMC, 4th Division, 3-L-23 Company. He participated in the battles of Roi Namur, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. David was wounded on Saipan. In 1951 he graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in Mining Engineering. He is a Legion of Honor member of AIMME. In retirement, David started his own business, I & I Services. The family will welcome friends at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine, Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment and services for the family will be held in Twinsburg, OH.
