How can eliminating mammograms be a topic for discussion? I was diagnosed two years ago with breast cancer–only by mammogram because there was no lump. It was not visible in the mammogram taken a year earlier and had already begun to spread to some lymph nodes. If I was more fortunate, and the cancer was smaller without lymph node involvement, a lumpectomy and radiation would have been the treatment of choice. That is much easier than mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation and certainly less costly.
Why would anyone consider giving up this means of early detection?
