Bill Veeck, former owner of the White Sox, Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Browns, was the brains behind “Disco Demolition Night” at Comiskey Park in 1979 and numerous other stunts.

The Tigers are hoping Veeck’s son can bring some excitement to fans at Comerica Park. The team on Tuesday hired Mike Veeck as promotions consultant.

“We plan to do eight to 10 individual events honoring everything from Tiger tradition to whatever I can pick up from the headlines,” Veeck said. “I’ll try to slip things through constantly, and maybe three or four of them will be accepted.”

One of the events Veeck already has planned is a night honoring former Tigers great Hank Greenberg.

Veeck previously held front-office jobs with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the Florida Marlins.
