Aldermen this week approved a new subdivision to be built on the city’s northeast side. Local firm Airhart Construction plans to build 80 single-family homes at Hawthorne Lane and Prince Crossing Road, near Wheaton Academy.
The City Council unanimously granted a preliminary plat for the project, to be known as Prince Crossing Farm.
Officials said final engineering is being completed and groundbreaking will begin in a few months.
Also this week, Mayor Michael Fortner announced the creation of the Main Street Task Force, a group that will prioritize recommendations from a recently completed report on downtown development.
The two-year study, by the S.B. Friedman Co. of Chicago, compared West Chicago’s downtown with those of surrounding communities and suggested improvements.
Fortner said the city has put a great deal of effort into facade and street development, but must “sort priorities to make the entire downtown work as a unit.”
The task force will advise the City Council by reviewing plans and making recommendations to specific city committees, officials said.
The six-member panel includes Alds. Christine Baxter, Jim Beifuss and Dave Sabathne.
Fortner said the group will begin meeting in March and could have preliminary recommendations ready by summer.
