The recent passage of campaign finance reform is the beginning, not the end, of the debate.
It is a good start to try and fix a broken, sometimes corrupt system.
Government is supposed to serve us, the people, not the rich and powerful corporations and special-interest groups.
Enron, the National Rifle Association and the AFL-CIO are a few perfect examples of the powerful dictating to Washington what policy should be.
That is bad for democracy.
When we the people, the average working, tax-paying American mean little or nothing to our elected officials, we have a major problem.
Our elected officials need to take more comfort in the $20 donation from an elderly American than the $1,000 donation from the Wilderness Society.
That is better government for us all.
