George McDonald, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, beloved husband of Marjorie J., nee Granger; devoted father of Allan (Mary K.) and Diana; proud grandfather of Jennifer M. McDonald; brother of the late James (Lillian) McDonald. George was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Chicago as a teenager where he lived until moving to Glenwood, IL in 1970. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After retiring from a patent law firm downtown, he became active in the community, serving on the Glenwood Police and Fire Commission Board of Trustees, as a member of the Bloom Township School Board, as a founding member of the Glenwood Library Board of Trustees, and a longtime volunteer of the Seniors Helping Seniors Program assisting local residents prepare their income tax returns. George lived a long and healthy life and loved gardening, especially the beautiful orchids he grew in his greenhouse, and walking his favorite dogs, Cleo and Watson. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at Hirsch Funeral Homes, 1340 Otto, Chicago Heights, IL. Services and interment are private.
