Myrtle A. Nelson, age 76, of Champaign, IL, died Feb. 21, 2002, 6 a.m., at home. Born May 14, 1925 in Chicago, IL. Worked as Office Manager, Council of State Governments (retired), and was Church Organist at Mount Greenwood United Methodist Church, Chicago, IL (retired). Attended public schools in Chicago, IL, and Chicago Teacher’s College. Member of Faith United Methodist Church. Began as Church Organist at age 14, retired at age 74. Her interests were her love of music, both in performing, singing and listening, and also her love of her family. Daughter of the late Henry Harms and Clara, nee Cook; wife of Joseph “Herb” Nelson, married in Chicago, IL on Jan. 29, 1944; mother of Richard H. Nelson of Champaign, IL, Scott H. Nelson of Mahomet, IL and Sally J. Scott of Decorah, IA; grandmother of six; sister of Melvin Harms of Largo, FL. Preceded in death by both her parents; and one granddaughter Megan Nelson. Services Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, 10 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary Ford officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation or St. Louis Ronald McDonald House.
