This is in response to J. Petran’s assertion that Dan Hampton’s character or suitability as a role model should have been considered by Pro Football Hall of Fame electors (“Other Views,” Tribune, Feb. 17). What is this person talking about?

If you want to keep people out of the Hall of Fame because of character or role model status, then Lawrence Taylor (drug abuse) and Paul Hornung (gambling) should never have made it, and Cris Carter (drug abuse) and Warren Moon (spousal abuse) should be kept out. As for post-election events getting someone removed, which Petran must be referring to, see O.J. Simpson.
