I was disappointed that the Supreme Court upheld the right of public schools to allow peer student grading (Page 1, Feb. 20). But the true horror is that this case was sent to the Supreme Court at all.
Any educator, whether motivated by malice or by sloth, who knowingly perpetuates a classroom practice that consistently undermines the self-esteem of a young student should not be permitted to teach. Sanctioned public humiliation in school destroys the love of learning–a goal antithetical to the mission of education.
