In “Uptown’s bid to recapture glory in peril,” the Uptown Theatre is being called to task for not raising all the money needed to complete the project. As an event planner for more than 10 years, it has been my experience that it is rare that a not-for-profit ever has all its funds in place 18 months in advance of its scheduled opening. It’s easy to make claims that they’ve raised a million-dollar donation last year and done nothing since, but in the fundraising world, not a lot of time has passed. I hope the Uptown has not lost a potential sponsor or donor over the naive implications this article has raised.
