The Naperville Plan Commission last week approved annexation agreements with nine property owners on North Aurora Road between Illinois Highway 59 and Ogden Avenue.

The properties were zoned industrial in DuPage County and are bounded by land already incorporated into the city, except for the south side where the properties are bordered by the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks.

Five of the properties–Strictly Golf, 84 Lumber, Chicago Granite, Aqua-Gon and Luebke Property–will be rezoned commercial. The four remaining–K-5 Construction Corp., Wilson Wholesale Roofing Supply, Five-H, L.L.C., and Golfballzone.com–will be rezoned to the city’s industrial district with a stipulation that if the businesses cease to operate, then the properties would revert to commercial.

During a public hearing on the annexations, residents urged commissioners to rezone all the properties to commercial as a safeguard for future development.

They also asked that companies be required to provide additional landscaping and buffers around their properties.

“We have come up with something that addresses the concerns of the residents while protecting the rights of the businesses,” said Plan Commission Chairman James Boyajian.

The city, which stands to gain tax revenue from the properties, will pay to hook the businesses up to sewer and water.
