Thomas A. Buettner, 61, of Lake Barrington Shores, was a retired accountant who devoured history books focusing on World War II and the Korean War. “We have books all over the house,” said his wife, Bernice. Mr. Buettner died of cancer Saturday, Feb. 23, in Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. He graduated from Loyola Academy in Wilmette and from Loyola University Chicago, where he received a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant with Touche Ross in Chicago during the 1960s and then with Homart Development Co., a shopping mall developer in Chicago. In the late 1970s, Mr. Buettner opened his own accounting office in Chicago. He later moved his office to Northbrook and then Lake Zurich. He specialized in tax accounting and retired in 1999. “He was a very trusting person,” his wife said. “Whoever met him felt that trust and just poured their hearts to him.” There are no other immediate survivors. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Rd., Barrington.
