A former Cook County prosecutor pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana Wednesday and was sentenced to 3 months of court supervision.

Jeffrey Ryan, 49, was arrested Jan. 15 when an X-ray machine in the Criminal Courts Building detected a pipe and marijuana in his briefcase, according to state attorney general spokesman Dan Anders.

Because of a possible conflict of interest, the attorney general, rather than the state’s attorney, prosecuted the case.

The county suspended Ryan without pay after his arrest, but he resigned shortly thereafter. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, court records show.

Judge Mark Ballard dismissed the paraphernalia charge.
