Fees museum visitors pay to use most of the 3,700 parking spaces around Soldier Field would go down in price under a measure given preliminary approval by a Chicago Park District Board committee Wednesday.
The changes are being made because Soldier Field parking closest to the museums has been tagged for storage of construction equipment being used in the $606 million stadium overhaul. The board decided to lower stadium parking fees to compensate museum visitors for the inconvenience of parking farther away from the museums.
The current all-day rate for the 2,300 spaces in the stadium’s South and Central lots will drop to $6 from $8. The changes also include an increase ranging from $2 to $4 in the $8 all-day rate for the three lots closest to the three museums.
The measures must be approved by the full park board, which meets March 13.
