A Lake County judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for an Island Lake man who allegedly confessed to starting fires at his former boss’ home and business because he was angered by his employer’s business dealings with France.
During a court appearance Wednesday, attorneys representing Mark Drezek, 28, of the 4500 block of Vista Drive, asked Lake County Circuit Judge Victoria Rossetti to order the evaluation. Assistant State’s Atty. George Pappas said Drezek gave a handwritten confession in which he stated he became angry when he learned his former boss had business dealings with the French.
Drezek is accused of burglarizing the man’s Long Grove home in the 4600 block of Twin Lakes Lane on Jan. 1, vandalizing the residence on Jan. 13 and starting a fire in the man’s garage on Jan. 15.
Drezek is charged with arson, residential arson, aggravated arson, residential burglary and criminal damage to property. Drezek also allegedly started a fire Jan. 14 at the man’s business.
Drezek is being held in Lake County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bond.
