Agnes M. Burke, 97, of Buchanan, MI, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 following an illness. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2002 at Legacy Family Funeral Services – Matthew R. Purchase Chapel, Berrien Springs. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002 at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. Born Jan. 30, 1905 in Ireland to James and Charlotte, nee Tillman, O’Connor, Agnes arrived in Chicago in 1922. She was a 1925 graduate of the St. Bernard School of Nursing. In July, 1940 she married Edward F. Burke, who preceded her in death in 1946. Agnes retired from St. Georges Hospital in Chicago, moving to Buchanan, MI in 1982 to be closer to her daughter, Ellen, and her children. Survivors include her daughter, Ellen F. (Tim) Cote of Buchanan; grandchildren, Julie Olson, Elizabeth Olson and Edward Olson of Chicago and L. Gunnar (Elizabeth) Olson of Pittsburgh, PA; and a great-grandson, Dylan G. Olson of Pittsburgh; loving nieces, Jean Burke of Chicago, Mary T. (Jim) Maroney of South Holland, IL, Marita (Don) Crotheau of Virginia, Mary C. (Gerald) Giesler of Dallas, TX and Eileen Tully of Colorado Spgs., CO; her nephew, George (Stacy) Barnett of El Paso, TX; and 16 great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Edward, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eileen (George) Barnett and Marie O’Connor.
