Ed Richards, 84, of Scottsboro, Ala., a former resident of Mt. Prospect and a retired national sales manager at Revere Copper & Brass in Chicago, died Monday, Feb. 25, in Huntsville, Ala. Born in Chicago, Mr. Richards was a graduate of Schurz High School who went to work in the shipping department at Revere Copper & Brass, a manufacturer of copper and brass products. Mr. Richards also worked in sales in the aluminum division during his 50-year career with the company. During the 1950s, he attended night school at Northwestern University in Evanston and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. “He never stopped educating himself,” his son, Bill, said. In the late 1970s, Mr. Richards was transferred to the company’s office in Alabama and retired in 1983. In addition, Mr. Richards was an ancient history enthusiast who had visited ruins around the world. Other survivors include his wife of 63 years, Virginia; a daughter, Jan Adkins; two more sons, Wayne and Jim; two sisters, Alice Boldt and Laraine Johnson; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A service will be held at noon Saturday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect.
